Training

Training is conducted on a Company-wide basis twice each month. We meet at McDermott Station on the first Saturday of each month at 08:00, and on the third Tuesdays at 19:00.

A typical Saturday training starts with the team verifying that all of our equipment is operation ("in service"). We check each vehicle for road-worthiness, and all of the equipment carried on the vehicle. These are not your ordinary passenger vehicles, so these check-outs can be rather time-consuming. We have to check that there's gas, oil, water and air, obviously, but we also have to check all of the radio's, medical equipment, extrication gear, fire-suppression equipment, wildland firefighting tools, and so on. The full check list can run to many pages for each vehicle.

Typically we train on structure firefighting and medical aid in the fall and winter, and we tend to focus on vehicle extrication, rope rescue and wildland firefighting in the spring and summer. This allows us to prepare for what the typical "worst-case" call is for a given season. Some photos were taken a few years ago when we were conducting a structure firefighting drill.

Company level training is conducted by our officers at McDermott Station, certification classes are handled by CDF's Training Battalion.
